Evolution of the brain cortex
A doctoral thesis has tones of information. But we can show it, relatively summarized, but still with necessary detail, using well compartmentalized journalistic infographics.

This is a selection of my recent works. All of them made by hand, thought and method. You can click and interact with them. Although I focus on digital methods and vectorial illustrations with an art-déco aesthetics, I always have this drive of taking a pen and generating shapes on the paper. So, I really love working on traditional scientific naturalistic illustrations too. Feel free to explore them, maybe come up with some ideas, and we’ll work with the style and technique that best suits your taste.

/Thesis cover
This was my personal design for my doctoral thesis. I tried to convey the epicness of the propaganda pannels of the early XX centrury.
/Illustration
A naturalist illustration of a caribou. Created with traditional methods, combining graphite, water colour and later digital refinement. It belonged to a series of illustrations centered around key representative species of the struggle that climate change poses on biodiversity. Developed during a course of scientific illustration, given by Ilustraciencia.

/Lab brand
A new laboratory studying the evolution of nervous sytems using the shark embryo as model. Quite awesome. They wanted a brand and a web for their lab that reflected a human and plain way of doing science, without the rigidity and pressure academic environments.

Coastal cities pollute their waters non-stop. Mediterranean Algae turns to the bioremediation power of macroalgae and a cloud-based monitoring platform to detect it in real time and act on it.

Project
Description
The aim of this project was to gather the information found in my doctoral thesis on a format that allowed exploration of the details that such kind of work contains. By organizing the different aspects in compartmentalized blocks, the reader can get the context of the research, the findings and the experimental process that led to them.
Project
Description
For the cover of my PhD thesis, a wanted to take advantage of the variety of animal models we used to achieve an impactful cover. With that aim, I also looked for inspiration in the constructivist and art-déco posters of the early 20th century
Project
Description
This infographics was part of a series done in collaboration with Ilustraciencia and the climate scientist Fernando Valladares about the climate change tipping points. One of these, the defrosting of permafrost, would liberate massive amounts of greenhouse gases, greatly worsening global warming. Restoring the populations of large herbivores that populated the boreal steppes at the ice age once could prevent this. To try to confer the paleo feeling, I went for loose brushstrokes, earthy textures and a warm palette.
Project
Description
A naturalist portrait of the caribou, part of a series of illustrations on key species facing the pressures of climate change, developed during a scientific illustration course given by Ilustraciencia. The main portrait was built with graphite and watercolour, later refined digitally, and paired with a set of pencil studies —the animal grazing and a detail of its snow-adapted hooves— assembled together into a species fact sheet.
Project
Description
Coastal environments are subject to a constant polluting pressure from human activities. This is particularly intense in urban cities with large harbours and intense marine traffic. In Mediterranean Algae, they take advantage of the bioremediation capacities of macroalgae to counter this, while deploying a cloud-based platform for real time monitoring of water quality parameters for informed decision making.
